A click value is the amount of angle one detent of a turret moves the point of impact, expressed in a fraction of a minute of angle or a fraction of a milliradian. It is fixed by the erector mechanism and printed on the turret cap, and it does not change with tube diameter, magnification or objective size. What it moves in actual inches changes constantly, because that depends on distance, and that is the one number a shooter needs at the bench and rarely has memorized past 100 yards.

This is the single most useful table to keep in a range bag: every stocked click value, at every distance a shooter is likely to be working, computed once so it never has to be worked out under time pressure.

Turrets only move in whole clicks, so the number you can actually dial is the nearest whole click, not the exact fractional figure this table shows.

Round to the nearest whole click, since a turret cannot dial a fraction. The remainder left on target after rounding is the residual error, usually a small fraction of an inch and rarely worth chasing further.

Which click value should you actually buy?

A quarter MOA click is the most common hunting and general purpose turret in North America, fine enough for essentially any shot a hunting rifle takes and familiar to the widest pool of shooters and ballistic apps. A tenth mil click is the standard on competition and long range scopes, favored for the same reason mil wins the broader unit argument: the constants scale in clean multiples of 3.6 rather than 1.047, which is easier to compute under time pressure at a stage or a cold bore shot.

An eighth MOA click, at 0.131 inches at 100 yards, is the finest common factory adjustment and shows up on target and benchrest turrets built for shooters who want to split hairs at the bench and are not in a hurry to get there. A full 1 MOA or half MOA click belongs on red dots and simple optics, where the reticle itself is far coarser than the adjustment and a fine click would be wasted precision. Why do red dots and simple optics use 1 MOA clicks?
